Exosphere : BCS AudioEngineer
ABOUT
Exosphere is a Gradshow project created for BCS AudioEngineer, an Audio Engineer that provided me with a brief to develop an AI generated video to pair with the audio.
So I as given a brief with all the timestamps and the script for the video and I had to develop a visual identity to match this. The brief was to create a sort film following an stronaut on their journey through deep space, travelling through stellar nebulas, planets and galaxies. With stunning visuals and binaural audio, simulating the journey through space.
This was the first time I had developed work with AI that was going to be displayed in the real world, so it was a bit surreal at first and I was on board with the concept because I knew AI could generate some beautiful visuals.
PROCESS
So the first thing I did was storyboard with Midjourney, generating images trying to develop a film style, I was thinking Interstellar, The Martian and No mans Sky, each scene being as impactful as the last in a cinematic sense. So from that I curated hundreds of images I developed and formed it into a storyboard. From there I fed each image into Runway to generate the video and started building the story. It was a lot of trial end error to maintain quality and consistency between shots and to sync them to the audio, so a lot of it was trying to masquerade it with looped clips, angle changes and colour grading.
I tried a lot of different variations for each clip because some fit better than others, or I got one incredible shot but then the astronaut decided to grow another leg, so a lot of it was cutting, splicing and looping in Premier Pro to try try and maintain flow.
OUTCOME
The final video I was very happy with, the audio was incredible and the video made it just a tad bit better. This is an avenue I’d love to explore as AI develops, it would allow me to fix the sudden drops of quality and consistency to the point it should be shown in IMAX.
